The weather was fine. The sum of £7,927 10s was ■passed through the totalisator, against £7,966 on the first day last .year —a decrease of £'3B 10s. Results : Maiden Plate, 6 furlongs.— Gay Paris, 7.10 (Whittaker), 1; Octoroon, 8.3, 2; Castadrift, 7.9, 3. Scratched— Henry Havelock and Klondyke. Won by half a length. Time, lmin 21sec. Dividends, £2 73 and £3 2s. First Handicap Hurdles, 2 miles.— Aqua Regia, 7.12 (Towers), 1; Lady Hune, 12.5, 2; Sol, 10.12, 3. All started. Won easily by five lengths. Time, 3min 59sec. Dividend, £3 ss. Avondale Stakes, (for two-year-olds), 4 furlongs.—Mr A. Bagges' b c Talepitcher, by Soult—l' airy Tale, 8.0 (Deeley), 1; Sedition, 8.0, 2: Rarata, 8.0, 3. Scratched—Waimangu, I'yralis, Coromandel. Prioi to the start Aqua Fortis jumped a fence, and got out of the course and did not take part in the race. Hohungatahi led to the straight, where the field closed up, and a great race ended in favour of Talepitcher by a head, with Rarata a head behind Sedition for third place. Time, 53 2-ssec. Dividends, £5 16s and £1 Is. AVONDALE CUP, of 250 sovs, li mile. Mr N. Banks' ch m Uranium, 8.5 (Brady) ••• * Scotty, 8.6 2 Shrapnel, 8.1 ° Scratched —Haldane, Tui Cakobau. Uranium was in front all the way, and won by a neck from Scotty, who ran wide at the turn. Shrapnel a length away third. Inglis was left at the post, and took no part in the race.. Time, 2min 15 2-ssec. Dividends, £3 5s and £1 13s.
Plunket Handicap, 7 furlongs.— Lochbuie, 8,0 (Deeley), 1; Pearlie, 3.10, 2; Omati, 9.4, 3. Scratched— Luresome and Cymri. Won easily by two lengths. Time, lmin 34sec. Dividend, £5 7s. Steeplechase Handicap, about 3 miles-Nor'-west, 9.12 (A. Selby), 1; Cinque, 9.10, 2; Lady Lanta, 9.7, 3. All started. Won bf a length. Time, 6min 27sec. Dividends, £8 and £l2.
Pony Handicap. 6 furlongs—Waihou 8.9 (Ackroyd), 1; Octoroon, 9.0, 2; Manapouri, 8.12, 3. Also started— Ngakapa. Won very easily by six lengths. Time, lmin 20sec. Dividend, £3 Bs. Flying Handicap, 6 furlongs.—Te Aroha, 8.1 (Ryan), 1; Millie, 8.3, 2; Omati, 7.9, 3. Scratched— Peregrine. Won by a neck. Time, lmin 19sec. Dividends, lis and £1 17s.
ROSEHILL MEETING. SPRING STAKES WON BY COLLaRIT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received September 22, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, September 22. Collarit, starting at odds on, won the Spring Stakes at the RosehiK meeting, beating Lady Florence after a good finish in lmin 41fsec. It is whispered that Collarit is an unlikely starter in the Epsom Handicap.
