MASTERTON TRUST LANDS TRUST.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trustees, last evening, was attended by Messrs T.
B. Michel! (chairman), R. Krahagen,
T. Wagg, E. McEwen, W. H. Jackson, D. Caselberg, and E. G. Eton. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £167 17s 9d.
Mr R. J. Lyttle wrote asking to be allowed to submit a plan for the
decoration of the Town Hall in event of the Trustees deciding to
renovate the Hall,
It was resolved.
to inform Mr Lyttle that tenders will be called for any work that ia
required at the Town Hall. The Town Clerk wrote 'stating that the Council could not spend any
money on the divisional road through
the Trust sections in Bannister Street as the road line was not
fenced. The Chairman said he did not think the land should be fenced until the Council had decided to make the roadIt was decided that as soon as the Borough Council, accepted a tender for the formation of the road, the Trust would agres to fence the land. Mr H. Fraser wrote applying for a lease of the shop occupied by him in Queen Street. It was resolved to offer
Mr Fraser a lease until a certain date, so that the lease would expire
at the same date as that of the adjoining building.
A letter was received from the Masterton Borough Council accepting the offer of the Trust in connection with the site for the public swimmirg baths in Dixon Street, and asking fcr a right-of-way to the section frr.m Queen Street. The Trustees decided that they could not see the ; r way to accede to the request of the Council.
A letter was received from Mr J. Hunter with reference to leasing a p rtion of the land at present leased f-om the Trustees by Mr T. J.
Nott. Mr Hunter stated that Mr Nott had agreed to sub-let that portion of the Hall Street frontage, where the bill-board now stands, to
him, an:! he asked the Trustees not to make the clause of Mr Nott's lease, with reference a to fire terminating the lease, apply to the building which he proposed to erect. Mr Hunter was present at the meeting, and explained that he could not think cf putting up a building if he were to take the risk of losing the lease by a fire. If the Trustees favourably considered the applicatior, he would be prepared to build a foundation that would carry a twostorey building, and perhaps he would erect a two-storey building almost at once, as he had a prospective tenant for the upper storey of such a building. All the buildings would become the property of th.2 Trust at the expiry of the lease. Mr Jackson suggested that Mr Nott might be induced to alienate his lease of that portion of the property which Mr Hunter desired to sub-lease, and then the Trustees could deal directly with Mr Hunter.
It was generally agreed that the matter was a very intricate one, when the position of Mr Nott was. considered.
On the motion of Mr Caselberg, seconded by Mr Eton, the Trustees decided tint they were unable to deal with Mr Hunter, as it was con-/ sidered inadvisahle to interfere with the present lease. An offer from Pinhey Bros., Ltd., to rent the Trust paddock in Bannister Street, at an annual rental of £l6, was accepted, the lease to be terminable on a month's notice.
~ Accounts amounting to £BB 17s lOd were passed for payment.
