CARTERTON.

Thursday. A meeting cf the Carterton Fire ißrigade was held in the Brigade Station, evening, Captain Lumley presiding over a good attendance of members. A communication was received from the United Fire Brigades' Association stating that th e Masteron and Picton Brigades ha d applied for the annual conference to be held in their respective towns. It was decided that the Carterton Brigade should cast its vote in favour of Masterton. The opening of the new Fire Station was fixed for October 31th and a committee was appointed to mabe the necessary arrangements to celebrate the occasion in a fitting manner. It was decided that an invitation be extended to all the Wairarapa Brigades to be present at the opening ceremony. Other routine . business was transacted. .The fortnightly meeting of the Heart of Oak Lodge 1.0.0. F., M.U.. was held in tbe Foresters' Hall last evening. Bro. Lamb was in the chair' and there was a fair attendance of members present. A letter was received from the Secretary of the Rechabite Lodge supporting the sugthat two members should be from each Lodge to act on the Friendly Societies' Sports Committee. The Secretary of the Foresters' Lodge also wrote supporting the suggestion and stating that the delegates to represent his Lodge had already been appointed. There is no improvement in the condition of Miss Lorna BerrilJ, who is seriously ill. A sheen-farmer at Kokotau has lost over thirty lambs this season. Work in connection with the stopbank, which is being erected at Kokotau by the Wairarapa South County, is progressing steadily.
