FIRE AND WATER.
ONE HUNDRED HOUSES BURNED. THIRTY PEOPLE DROWNED. Received September 18, 11 p.m. TOKIO, September 18. A fire at the Kosakabli mine, Kotaro, destroyed 100 houses. While efforts were being made to extinguish the flames, the mine reservoir burst, flooding the village, and drowning thirty persons, chiefly Japanese women and children.
