CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER.

By Telegraph—Press Association. WHANGAREI, September 18. At the Magistrate's Court, before Mr K. W. Dyer, a charge of manslaughter was preferred against an elderly Portuguese, Richard Pedro. The charge is a corollary of a fatal accident to .William Bextall, in the Kiripaka coal mine on July <J7th, when a train of running trucks overwhelmed deceased in a mine dip. It is alleged that Pedro, who was acting as brakesman failed to attach a rope to the trucks before lowering them into the mine. Accused, who was committed to the Supreme Court, in Auckland, pleaded not guilty, and reserved his defence. Bail was allowed, self in £IOO and two sure ■ ties in £75.
