HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. ! The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, September 14th— The mutton market is very firm, with a better demand, and there are signs of improvement in the market. Canterbury is quoted at 4sd, and North Island mutton at 3ld per lb. The lamb market is very firm. Stocks on hand are light, and there is a good demand for all lamb. Canterbury is quoted at s§d, and other than Canterbury at 5Jd per lb. The beef market is quiet. Hindquarters are quoted at 3|d, forequarters at 2|d per lb. The butter market is very firm, with an active demand for best quality at full prices. Trade throughout the country is good, and consumption is large. Current quotations are : Danish 115s, Siberian 975, Irish 106s per cwt. The cheese market is firm, with an upward tendency, and there is a fair local demand at this price. Canadian manufacture ,-is quoted at 61s for coJoureds, 60s for white per cwt. The hemp market is quiet, bit firm, with a better demand prevailing. October-December shipments, g3od fair grade, are quoted at £32 10s, fair grade £29 10s per ton. Fair current Manila, on spot, is quoted at £34 10s per ton. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. Bright, clean New Zealand seed, weighing 17lb to the bushel, is quoted at 60s per cwt. The wool market is firmer. The arrivals from the Kiver Plate during the month of August, 1907, are as follow: — Mutton London, 82,091; Liverpool, 131,899; Hull, 7,809; Newcastle, 23,693; Cardiff, 4,228; Southampton, 1,689; Ireland. 2,018. Lamb—London, 4,563; Liverpool, 2,956; Hull. 39; Newcastle, 1,853; Cardiff, 848; Southampton, 318.
