FOOTBALL.
Our Mauriceville correspondent •writes:—A football match—the last of the season—was played here on Saturday afternoon, between the Eangitumau and Mauriceville teams, and resulted in a win for Rangitumau by 13 points to 5. After the match the visitors were entertained at a dinner in the Hall by the Mauriceville team, and were well attended to by Mesdames Fisher and R. Brooks. Afterwards a dance was held in the Hall, and a very enjoybie evening was spent. The third round of the Wairarapa Rugby Union's Junior Championship was concluded on Saturday last. The following is the position of the teams: — o5 I§ I A £a Q u Ruahine 9 1 3 JjjJ Martinborough 10 2 1 10£ Red Star 8 5 1 8J Masterton 4 7 1 4} Featherston 1 12 1 1* Carterton withdrew. A match was played at Featherston, on Saturday, for the Junior Championship between Featherston and Martinborough, and after a fine game resulted in a win for the former by 8 points to 6. Tries were scored by Quaine and Willacy for Martinborough, Flutey converting Quaine's try. For Featherston Crowther crossed the line and W. Mason kicked a penalty goal.
