THE OCEAN RACE.
A LAND TO LAND RECORD. NEW YORK, September 13. The Lusitania arrived at Sandy Hook and crossed the bar at three minutes past nine. On the fourth day's run she put up 593 knots, despite a fog. She averaged 23 knots. The Lusitania beat the land to land record by 5 hours 44 minutes. Her average speed was 22.87 miles an hou v , as compared with the Deutsehland's record in 1900 of 23.15 miles from New York to Plymouth. Received September 15, 4.9 p.m. NEW YORK, September 14. The Lusitania's average speed was 23.01 knots. The passage from Queenstown to Sandy Jtiook occupied 4 days 20 hours. The engines worked - perfectly, and never slowed down during intermittent fogs lasting two and a half days. The Lusitania received a tremendous reception on arrival. She is the first big liner to enter New York through the new Ambrose Channel, which saves five miles steaming. The ~oal consumption during the trip was under 1,000 tons. (The distance from New York to Plymouth, off E 'dy£tone, is 2,978 miles. The Kaiser Wilhelm 11., of the North German Company J:as attained a speed of 23.58 koots.)
