AUSTRALIAN BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS.
By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, September 11. There was a very large crowd at the Opera House, to-night, to witness the final contests for the Aus tralasian Boxing Championships. The spectators showed the keenest interest throughout, and at times the enthusiasm was so great that the referee had difficulty in quelling the uproar. The Bantam Contest was between E. Lusher, New South Wales, and J. Parker, Christchurch. Lusher, boxed in very scientific manner and was awarded the decision amidst hearty cheering. J. Lane, New South Wales, and A. L. Nash, Christchurch, met in the Welter division. Both men went in simply for hard hitting, and the New South We'shman was counted out in the second round, y and Nash declared the winner amidst a perfect yell of enthusiasm. The Light-weight Contest was between D. White, New South Wales, and R. Mayze, Christchurch, the latter winning after an excellent set to. A. Tresider, Ashburton, and W. Elliott, Timaru. fought out the Featherweight Championship. This contest afforded an excellent exhibition of the liner points ot boxing. Indeed, it was the finest bout of the evening, and also superior to anything seen on the previous night. Victory went to Elliott. The Middleweight aspirants for championship honors were A. J. Scanlon, Queensland, and L. Fletcher, Wellington. Scanlon's tremendous, though unscientific manner, nonplussed the New Zealander, who was beaten from the start.
