Wheat. —A cargo of Australian sold at 37s 9d; 8,000 quarters of Victorian September-October shipment, 40s. Rabbits. —An improving demand. Best Melbourne are retailing at 12s 6d to 13s, Sydneys at 13s to 14s. At the rabbitskin sales 3,200 bundles offered, and 3,110 sold at from par to a penny advance. Frozen mutton.—Canterbury, light 4Jd, medium 4 3-16 d, heavy 3|d; Southland, not quoted; North Island, best brands, 3 15 16d. " New Zealand lamb, Canterbury, light and medium unchanged, heavy 4 13-16 d; other sorts, unchanged. New Zealand beef.—Ox fores, 2 H-16d; ox hinds, 3 13-16 d. River Plate Sheep.—Unchanged. River Plate beef.—Ox fores, 29-16 d; ox hinds, 3id. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. ,Jiy Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, September 9. The High Commissioner's market cable, dated London, September 7th, reports:—The meat market is steady, moderate demand. Canterbury is quoted at 4d, North Island 3|d. The lamb market is firm. Canterbury, s§d; other than Canterbury, s|d. The beef market is a shade weaker. Hindquarters 3fd. forequarters 2|d. The hemp market is not much changed, but there is a tendency slighty in favour of sel'ers. Good fair grade on spot is £32 10s; October and December shipments, good fair grade, £32; fair grade, £29. The butter market is rather quiet. Buyers are holding back, and there is no change in prices. The cheese market is temporarily excited. It is reported that a large operator has been speculating heavily, hoping to corner the market. New Zealand white cheese is 605.,
