CARTERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Monday. Mr C. E. Jones, of Matarawa, has purchased 95 acres of flat land, together with a two-roomed cottage at Matarawa, belonging to Mr H. Judd. The price paid is said to be £l6 per acre. A large number of the congregation of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church journeyed to Martinborough on Sunday to attend the mission which is being conducted in that township by the Rev. Father Clune. A special meeting of Stewards of the Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club was held at the Secretary's rooms, High Street, on Saturday. The principal business dealt with was the alteration of the rules of the Club. Arrangements are complete for the Wairarapa Horticultural and Industrial Society's winter bulb show to be held in Victoria Hall, on Saturday next. A large number of entries have been received. The building trade continues to be brisk here. Several buildings are either in the course of erection, and are receiving the finishing touches. A cold southerly wind sprang up late last night, and continued to-day. The cold weather will play havoc with the young lambs. Several farmers in the district have lost a number of lamb 3 this year owing to the cold weather. Work will shortly be commenced in connection with the supplying of the Belvedere Dairy Factory with water from the Heraki Creek.
