VALEDICTORY.
PRESENTATION TO MR G. G. CORK. I A pleasant function took place *n Messrs K. E. Howell and Co.'s Auction Rooms, last evening, when a large number of the friends of Mr G. G. Cork gathered together to bid him farewell, as he is leaving Masterton shortly for Dannevirke. Mr C. A. Pownall occupied the chair, and apologised for the absence of the Mayor. Mr H. C. Robinson, in making a presentation to Mr Cork, on behalf of the latter's friends, said that he had known Mr Cork for a number of years, and in business matters he had always found him very courteous. He was sure those present would regret Mr Cork's departure. He then presented Mr Cork with a handsome gold watch suitably inscribed. Messrs C. A. Pownall, M. C. O'Connell, H. W. Pownall, E. G. Eton, G. Hyde, H. M. Boddington, J. Whittaker, B. J. Dolan, A. Haughey, J. Kelliher, and C. Hoffeins also spoke in a eulogistic manner of Mr [Cork's qualities, and expressed regret at his departure. Mr Cork's health was drunk with- musical honours. Mr Cork made a suitable reply, thanking those present for their handsome present and their kindly expressions of friendship. The other toasts honoured were:— "The King," the Chairman; "Mrs Cork," the Chairman; "The Chairman," Mr H. C. Robinson; "The Legal Profession," the Chairman— j Messrs B. J. Dolan and H. C, Robinson; "The Press," Mr A. Haughey. During the evening songs were I sung by Messrs H. W. Pownall, J. j Kelliher, G. Cullen, B. Brodie, H. C. Robinson, B. J. Dolan, A. Haughty and C. J. Mackellar.
