AUCKLAND v. SOUTHLAND.

By ■ Telegraph —Press Association. INVERCARGILL, September 4. The football match Southland v. Auckland, played to-day, was won by Auckland by 10 points to nil. The game was mostly a forward one, and play was not of a very high standard, though fast and interesting. Against a slight breeze in the first spell Auckland got a lead with a penalty goal kicked by Magce. Playing with the wind in the second speli Auckland had the best of the game. Twinanne potted a goal early in the spell, and just before the call of time Cook scored a "soft" try. Auckland were superior throughout, but neither side showed scoring ability, and seven points would have been a better gauge of the relative merits of the teamu.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Received September 4, 9.20 p.m. LONDON, September 4. The sub-committee of the English Rugby Union recommended the acceptance of the invitation of the New Zealand Rugby Union to send a team to New Zealand. It is understood that players are willing to go if required.
