Morris, J. Yarr, J. H. Pauling, J. C. Ewington, J. Prentice and W. Pragnell. A draft agreement for the taking of the land belonging to Mr J. Macara for the widening of Dixon Street was forwarded by Mr W. G. Beard, solicitor, for approval. The Town Clerk said that the agreement was in order with the exception that a clause might be inserted giving the Council the right to pay off the whole amount owing to Mr Macara at any time. He thought that this clause should be inserted, because the Council might in the future be able to borrow the necessary money at a cheaper rate of interest than that asked by Mr Macara. The agreement was approved of, providing a clause was inserted on the lines suggested by the Town Clerk. Mr J. B. Keith, agent for the Trustees of the Renall Estace, wrote asking for a statement of the work done in' Essex Street, ar.d the payment of the balance of the £SO held by the Council on behalf of the Trustees. Ho also asked for payment of the £l5O owing in respect of half the cost of the culvert. The Town Clerk said he understood the latter amount sheuld be £l3O and not £l5O. Cr Temple asked whether Essex Street was finished, because it seemed to him that mud was already coming up above the stones. The Engineer said that the gravel was put on the road at the specified depth. It was decided to pay the balance of money due on account of Essex Street, bu 4 ; the matter of paying £l5O, half cost of culvert, was referred to the Finance Committee with power to act. Mrs Sarah Percy made application for permission to install the septic tank system of drainage on her property in Hogg Crescent. The application was granted subject to the usuai conditions.
An application was made by MiBen Brodie, on behalf of Mr Jas. Biggins, of the Taratahi Hotel, for a refund of £3, being the amount paid by Mr Biggins for a conditional license to sell liquor in the Park on March 14th last, the sports which were to have been held on that date having been abandoned. The application was granted, provided it could be legally done. Mr J. A. Swanson wrote stating that in connection with the widening of Kuripuni Street it would suit hiin to move his house back now, and he would be pleased to meet the Works Committee preference to the matter. The letter was referred to the Works Committee. An application by the Borough Turncock, H. O'Donnell, for a new bicycle was referred to the Works Committee. Messrs H. C. Robinson, J. Miller and C. Cameron waited on the Council, and asked the Council to approve of the plans for the sub-divieion of Kinvig's Estate, lying between Pownall Street and Railway Road. It was stated that it was intended to do the sub-division work in two sections. Cr Temple asked whether the plans were the same as those which had been before the Council some months ago. Mr Robinson said the plans had since been slightly amended. After having allowed the Engineer to consult the plans in company with the deputation, the Council decided to hold consideration of the matter over until the special meeting on Thursday evening. Tiie report of the Committee in connection with Short Street crossing, as already published, was adopted. The Engineer was instructed to make a survey of Short Street to ascertain the correct alignment of the section of the road running up to
