HAUPIRI BOATING FATALITY.
By Telegraph—Press Association. GISBORNE, September 2. Further particulars in connection with the Haupiri boating fatality show that when a heavy sea struck the boat it was returning to the ship, and besides sweeping Lawrence overboard, caused the crew to lose their oars leaving them with only the steer oar to work the boat. Lawrence was not a good swimmer, and soon sank, and those in the boat had a difficulty in getting back to the steamer. The body has not yet been recovered.
