A CONVICTION QUASHED.

_ * By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, August 29. Mr •Justice Williams allowed the appeal of Frank Coutts, who was fined £SO for sly grog-selling. His Honour said that since the case came before the Magistrate facts had come to light which completely discredited the principal witness for the prosecution who had made a deliberate attempt to obtain money from Coutts to suppress his evidence. No judge or jury would be justified in giving the smallest credence to the evidence of that witness. The conviction would therefore be quashed.
