FOOTBALL.
A match was played, yesterday afternoon, between teams representing the employees of the W.F.C.A. and J. Graham and Co., the former winning after a very interesting game by 9 points to 3 points. For the winners Hall, Home and McFarlane scored a try each, and for the losers Hunter kicked a penalty goal. Mr F. Jackson was referee. AUCKLAND v. SOUTH CANTERBURY. "By"Telegraph—Press Association.
TIMARU, August 29. The match Auckland v. South Canterbury was played this afternoon. The weather was very warm, and the match was a most interesting one, but on the whole the forwards bore the brunt of it, as play kept very close. Soon alter the kick-off Eoddick placed a goal from a penalty then Hooper scored a try, which V. Scott converted. At this stage South Canterbury were leading by 8 points to nil. Murray got the first try for Auckland, which McGee converted, ■and the first spell ended — South Canterbury ... 8 Auckland 5 In the second spell, Murray again ■got across, the line, but Hall failed with the kick at goal. With the score equal, play was very strenuous. With two minutes to go, a scrum took place on the Auckland line.J and the ball going out to South Canterbury, Rodgers slipped across the line. A match between Wellington College and Wanganui College Old Boys took place this afternoon. Wanganui won by 14 points to 3.
