No fewer than 3,000 hands are employed in connection with the Colonial Sugar Company's mills and plantations at Lautoka, Fiji. Imported coolie labour is much in evidence. The whole of the raw sugar from the mills is sent to Auckland for refining. Mr A. S. "Biss, of Wellington, who recently visited the mills and plantations, states that he found that the authorities were not at all concerned at the duty being taken off sugar in this colony, as they anticipate that the increased consumption by preservers and confectionery works will mere than compensate them for the risk ol competition with other countries. Messrs «T. A. tfoger arul Co., Williamstown, Vic, v vite: "Last wet k Ihe merits c-i Chamberlain's Pain Balm were 'again. demonstrated locally. A customer of ours had a child very bad with mumps. One of our salesmen suggested giving Chamberlain's Pain Balm a trial. This was done, and the balm applied-(NOT BTJB-' BkD IN)-and a iiannei bandage was fastened about the throat and head during the night. By morning the acute pains caused bv the swollen glands had disappeared, and in a few days the mumps had entirely gone. We think this simple and effective cure should be widely known, as this distressing throat disease is very prevelentat this season of the year.." Fosby sale all dealers.
