A MINING DIFFICULTY, Received August 28, 9.54 a.m. SYDNEY, August 28. A difficulty has ciopped up at Hebburh Colliery, Newcastle,' and the mine has been thrown idle. The men object to work in the mine owing to sparking electric cables supplying the power to the coal-cutting machines. The manager of the mine contends, that there is no gas in the mine, and therefore no danger,, but the men argue that there is a danger of the cutting machines striking a blower of gas at any moment. • The trouble threatens to spread to other mines and cause dislocation in the coal trade. THE SECESSION MOVEMENT. Received August |29, 12.47 a.m. BRISBANE, August 28. In the Legislative Assembly, Mr Plunkett tabled a " motion in favour of Queensland seceding from the Federation.
