"TRAVELLING EXPENSES."
(By Telegraph—Parliamentary Correspondent). WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the House of Representatives, to day, Mr C. M. Gray, member for Christchurch North, gave notice to ask the Goveranment if it is a fact that a gentleman occupying the position of a District Judge receives 31s 6d a day travelling expenses, whether he travels or not, in addition to a free railway pass for himself and his wife. At the evening sitting of the House Mr W. P. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, questioned the Premier as to the arrangement for an enquiry into the question of the Customs expert's travelling allowance. He expressed the opinion that the enquiry should be held by a Parliamentary Committee, :: 1 : aid he would like an opportunity of examining the expert. There were, he said, rumours that this was not the only instance of travelling expenses being drawn by officers, whether travelling or not. The Premier said that the matter would be referred to a Parliamentary Committee, and in a few days h 3 hoped to state the personnel of the Committee.
