THE PIAKO SWAMP.

Mr Breaknell, drainage engineer, who had previously undertaken work for the Government, has been appointed to take charge of an extensive drainage scheme on the Piake Swamp in the Waikato district, where the Government has control of some 48,000 acres. Mr McNab, Minister of Lands and Agriculture, be- i lieves that the Piako Swamp will become the centre of the flax indus try of the colony.
