CARTERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Monday. A collision occurred in High Street about dusk this evening. A trap driven by Miss Gordon, of this town, collided with a vehicle which was proceeding in the opposite direction and driven by the local representative of the Singe? Sewing Machine Company. As & result ot the collision the axle of the latter vehicle ■was considerately bent. The trap escaped damage. A very large congregation attended the local Methodist Church, last evening, when the Rev. W. J. Elliott delivered a sermon to young men on "The Rich Young Ruler." Special hymns were sung by the choir, and a sacred sc£o, "There is a green hill faraway." was nicely rendered by Mrs Hughes. At the inquest held, this morning, on the infant child ot Mr and Mrs P. Hodder, of Dalefield, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Scarlet fever has again broken out in this town, and five cases are reported:; two m the borough and three outside the borough. The mildness of the weather during the past two or three days should have a beneficial effect on the pastures.
