WHO PICKED THE WAIRARAPA HOCKEY REPRESENTATIVE TEAM?
(To the Editor.) Sir, —A few of us hockey players would be very pleased if the Secretary of the Wairarapa Hockey Association would give us a little information as to who selected the Wai - rarapa representatives to play against Wanganui on Monday next. We understand that the following gentlemen, viz., Messrs Fishe:*, Hughes and Campbell constitute the Selection Committee, but were all these gentlemen present when the team was picked, or we»*e all of them consulted in the inattei". We think not, for we understand that at the time the selection took place Mr Fisher was away from Carterton on a holiday, and that Mr Hughes, who has always taken an interest in hockey matters, and is the only selector who has seen anything of the important matches played for the last month and whom we, therefore, consider the only reliable selector, was simply ignored, and did not receive any information re the selection of a team. Can the Secretary tell us why? We admit that the team picked is a fairly strong one with the exception of the half-line; but why a Carterton man should be picked instead of Nixon is a mystery to us, unless perhaps the Carterton man had something to do with the selection of the learn. Now, would the Secretary kindly let us know who selected the team, and why hockey matters are worked in such a slipshod manner. —We are. etc., Ji FEW HOCKEYITES. Masterton, August 23rd. £ " . .■ r
