i »' ■ + (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Thursday. Captain McNaught, representing the National Defence League, addressed a meeting at St. Mark s Sunday Schoolroom, last evening. The Mayor (Mr W. Moore) occupied the chair. Captain McNaught, in the course of his remarks, stated that the military training of youths between the ages of 17 and 21 was for the benefit of the country, and he was glad to say that in certain towns of the North Island the clergy were advocating the formation of branches of the League. A scheme in connection with the New Zealand League had been arrived at whereby applicants who were enrolled for military training would not be compelled to neglect their employment for the purpose of receiving instruction. The chairman, at the conclusion of the address, thanked Captain McNaught for his address, and moved that a branch of the League should be formed at Carterton. The motion was seconded by Mr |J. Moncrieff, jnr., and carried. Officers wore elected and committees set up to carry on the work of the League. A meeting of the Carterton Fire Brigade was held last evening, when it was decided that Messrs W. Campbell and E.
