MAJOR CUP. UNITED v. CARTERTON A. An important match, that decided this year's championship, was played at Lansdowne, yesterday afternoon, the opposing teams being United and Carterton A. The latter team won by 8 goals to 1, and thereby annexed the premiership. Had the winners lost the match Kia Kaha would have had to play off with Carterton. It must be said that United were not represent; ed by their strongest team, but their form yesterday was not by any means up to the usual standard. Carterton had the best of the game all through, and only on one or two occasions did the losers show any b -illiancy. In the first spell the visitors scored three goals. One of these wuihit by Isaacs, a United player, and the other two by King and Tunnecliffe. Baker put in a good run for the Uniteds in this spell, and the result was that he hit their only goal. The second spell, like the first, was very uninteresting. Ihe visitors were attacking almost all the time, and rarely were their backs called upon to defend. Shortly after the spell opened W. Fisher hit another goal for Carterton. A spell of monotonous play followed, and was only relieved by a splendid run by Wing for the home team. The visitors again commenced to attack, and Lindop added another goal. The last three goals were scored in fairly quick succession by W. Fisher, and the ended in a win for Carterton jy eight goals to one. Mr W. J. Vernon was referee. W.F.C.A. v. CARTERTON B. The W.F.C.A. and Carterton B teams met at Carterton, yesterday afternoon, the former team winning bv three goab to one. For the winners Whitt, Fairbrother and Pragnell scared a goal each. The losers goalw as scored by Peterson. The Papa Koura Club : (Featherston) intend holding a social and dance early next month. After the representative match be • tween the Wanganui and Wairarapa representatives, on Monday next, the visitors will be entertained at a dinner by the home team in the Central Hotel.
