The Indraghiri had completed discharging the Melbourne portion of her cargo, and was to have departed for New Zealand this morning. Tha fire was confined to No 1. 1 o'd. A portion of the cargo was dam - aged by fire and water, but the extent is unknown till a survey has been made. PAYMENT OF FEDERAL MEMBERS. Received August 22, 9:36 a.m. MELBOURNE, August 22. The Lord Mayor presided over a crowded meeting in tie Town Hall. Resolutions were adopted protesting against Federal members raising their allowances before consulting the electors. It was decided to forward the resolutions to the Lord Mayors and Mayors of the principal cities of the Commonwealth, with a view to concerted action. THE MEASURE IN THE SENATE. Received August 22, 10.23 a.m. MELBOURNE, August 22. In the Senate the Bill for increasing members' allowances passed the committee stages without amendment. SECESSION. EXCITED WEST AUSTRALIANS. The Municipal Council has endorsed a request from the Anti-Federal League that Parliament be asked to take immediate steps to secure Westralia's withdrawal from the federation. _ | The discussion disclosed a strong ; anti-Federal feeliner. j Councillor Healey considered there was only one way out —that by fighting. The State had only a quarter of a million people, but a ; man with a just cause was as good as ; three others. If they took up arms j they could get out of the federation in 24 hours.
