Many applications from various pai ts of the North Island are being received by the Labour Department for farm labourers. It is expected that there will be a big demand for farm labour during the next two months. Information has received in Wellington from Sydney that the takings at Saturday's match between the New Zealand professional team for England and the New South Wales professionals, totalled £602, of which the New Zealanders will receive £316. Information has also been received that the English professional team will visit New Zealand in 1909 or 1910—most probably the former date—and it will include a number of very prominent players. The promoters of the team have received a number of offers of assistance if required. One enthusiast has offered to give a cheque for a thousand pounds if desired.
