DEATH OF A FAMOUS DETECTIVE.
Received August 20, 7.45 a.m. LONDON, August 19. Pinkerton, head of the fa-nous Arneriean detective agency, died while on a voyage to Europe. (William Allan Pinkerton, principal of Pinkerton's Detective Agency, was born in 1846, being the sen of a noted detective. Well educated, he entered the secret service division of the United States Army in 1861, and served through the Civil War, chiefly in the army of the Potomac. After toe war he became a e'erk in his father's office; later, with his brother, chief assistant in the agency, succeeding to the business on the death of Allan Pinkerton. in 1884.
