ST. PATRICK'S DAY SPORTS ASSOCIATION.
AiNMJAL MEETING. meeting of the members of the St. Patrick's Day Sports Association was.held in the Exchange Hall en Saturday evening. The President .(Mr H. .O'Leary) occupied the -chair, and .there .were .about fifteen others jpresent. The annual ;report ; made reference to the postponement of the sports last .year on .account of weather .on March J.4th,,and the ultimate abandonment .of the gathering altogether. This had .resulted in a serious iloss to the Society, as no return -was obtained for the expenses in ■ euxxed in advertising, printing, etc. The concert and dance.in the evening ©f March Mth had, ; however been a gr,ea± success, and ,had ; resulted in a profit of £2B il6s. The thanks of the Society to the donors.of cash amounts during the year,and to .those who asea&ted at the concert and dance, were recor.de-1. During the year 37 meaaixars hud been .elected,, and nine had resigned, .leaving at present a total membership of .16]. Pveference was also made to the decision of the Borough Council not to allow any afeo.ho.lic .liquor to be sold on the Pali .during sports gathering. This, it -was stated, would materially reduce the .Soolejty's income in f jture. The annual showed that the reeeipts had been £I9S 18s lid (balance from last year £3.7 ?s sd, subscriptions £66 2s, entrance fees £3B 2s 6d, .sale .of privileges £l2 10s, concert SJfld daace ,£2B 16s, refund of rent of park and donations £ls 3s); expenditure £139 14s Id (refund entrance fees revived £37 39s 6d, printing z®& advertising £2l 33s 6d; secretary £2O, refund of amount paid for privileges £l2 10s, rent of park £lO 10s. New Zealand Athletic Association affiliation fee £2 2s); leaving a credit balance of £59 4s lOd. The concert and dance showed that the receipts had Jbjen £59 Is 6d, and the expenditure £3O 5s 6d, leaving a credit balance of £2B 16s. The assets were shown as £72 4s lOd, and the liabilities £3 I2s. The general opinion of the balance s"ieet was that it wasji very satisfactory one, considering that there had bacn no sports last year, and, therefore, no return for certain expenses incurred.. The #porfc and balance sheet were j adopted on the motion of Mr W. L. i Falconer, seconded by Mr J. C. Mc- 1 Killop. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: Patron, Rev. Dean McKenna; President, Mr H. Smeary; Vice-Presidents, Messrs J. C. McKillop and W. L. Falconer; Treasurer, Mr A. Haughey; Secretary, Mr C. A. Tabuteau; General Committee, Messrs F. Haughey, J. Cullen, J. Lyall, J. G'Dowd, J. Pickett, J. Gill, E. G. Williams, F. O'Toole, B. J. Dolan, T. W. Pickett, J. Burke, P. J. O'Leary, J. Yarr, M. Kerins, and J. Kealey; Auditors, Messrs P. J. O'Leary and B. J. Dolan. The President, Treasurer and Secretary were appointed a committee to sign cheques. The question of fixing a date for the next sports meeting and concert and dance was left to the Executive Committee. Messrs A. Kennedy, W. Smith and L. Johns were elected members of the Association. The Chairman, before the meeting concluded, said he wished to remind the members that they would be expected to pay their subscriptions this year. He said this because some members thought that because they got no return for their subscriptions last year they would not be expected to pay anything this year. A vote of thanks to the Secretary and Chairman concluded the meeting.
