THE CULLINAN DIAMOND. PROPOSED PRESENTATION TO KING EDWARD. Received August 18, 4.42 p.m. PRETORIA, August 17. General Botha has given notice that he will move a motion in the Assembly in favour of the colony acquiring the Cullman diamond for presentation to His Majesty King Edward as a token of loyalty and to commemorate the granting of responsible government. The diamond belongs to the Premier Diamond Mining Company, and is estimated to he .probably worth £1.000,000. Under the mining Jaws the Transvaal Government are already the owner of a sixteenth share of the diamond, it being fixed at £65,000. The Progressive members of the House have resolved to .oppose the purchase of the diamond on the grounds that the time was inopportune owing to financial difficulties and the depression on the Rand.
