PRIESTS ASSUME POLICE DUTIES. LONDON, August 14. .The priests of Beltast have assumed ,police duties, and made themselves with the magistrates, responsible for .the maintenance of peace. THE FALLS ROAD ATTACKS. LONDON, August 14. The riotous attacks on the police in the Falls Road were identical with those upon the alleged blackleg carters.and so-called blackleg military and constabulary protecting them. Orangemen and Unionists of Belfast ; have appealed to sympathisers to! avoid saying anything likely to lead to disorder. .PJROBABLE SETTLEMENT OF STJKIKE TROUBLES. .Received August 15, 9.54 p.m. LONDON, August 15. The conference at Belfast to arrange a settlement of the strike .troubles, through which the recent riots occurred, is progressing satisfactorily. EXPLANATION BY MK GRAYSON. [Received August 15, 11.28 p.m. LONDON, August 15. Mr Grayson, M.P., in a letter to the Times, says that his speech at Huddersfield was misreported. Referring to the terrible incidents at Belfast, he states that he remarked that the fight was of a most unequal character, since one side had the military training ball cartridge, Gatlings and bayonets to use, while the other side had only broken bottles wi + h which to fight He adds that his statement was a very different thing to that attributed to him.
