MASTERTON TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

MEETING OF MANAGERS

Th.e tordinary meeting of Managers of the Masterton Technical School was held last evening. There were present —Messrs W. H. Jackson (in the chair), -J. M. Coradine, J. B. Keith, and E. H. Haddington. The Treasurer reported a debit balance of ,£3l 8s Id. A letter was received from the Town Clerk in reference to the recent examination of plumbers, in which it was stated tht,t the Borough Council had previously paid the cost of the examinations, but as they were now paying the Managers a yearly subsidy they asked the Managers to carry out the examinations at their own cost. It was decided to comply with the request on condition that the Council paid the Managers a yearly subsidy of £25..

Trie.Managers of the Feilding and New Plymouth Technical Schools forwarded information in reference to the building of their schools and the way in which the money was raised. —lt was decided to forward letters of thanks to the Managers for the- information.

An application was received from Mr E. J. Chilton for the instructorship of a class for .the teaching of light and shade, or sign-writing, at the School. It was decided to reply that the application would be considered when reconstructing the classes at the new school. The Education Department wrote stating that the fact of the site for the proposed Technical School being leased to the Managers would not be a bar to any application that might be made for a grant in aid of building, etc., provided, of course, that the conditions of the lease were such as could be approved by the Minister. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the Managers, on Saturday morning, at 10 o'clock, to further discuss the general requirements and accommodation necessary at the new school.

A deputation was appointed to wait on the Trust Lands Trust for the purpose of securing a lease of a section on which to erect the new school.

Accounts amounting to £7 17s lid iy<?re passed for payment.
