CARTERTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Monday. The following is the number of ! marks obtained by scholars attending the Carterton Methodist Sunday School, who recently sat for the annual scripture examinations held in connection with the Wellington Sunday School Union: —Grade II.: Levenia Fensham 42. Grade IV.: Pearl Mansfield and Fenton Butler, 60 mark? each. Grade VI.: Thelma Elliott, 48; Maurice Lumley, 53. Second-class certificates will be awarded to Pearl Mansfield and Fenton Butler, and third-class certificates to Maurice Lumley and Thelma Elliott. Preparations on a largo scale are being made for a "Pinafore Social" to be held shortly in connection with Mr W. Bannin's dancing class. The Belvedere dairy factory will re-open for the season on September 2nd. Cook's Pictures showed before a fair audience on Saturday night at Victoria Hail. The picture depicting the "All Blacks'" match against Australia was of a very interesting character, and various phases of the game were warmly applauded by the audience. The thoroughfare of High Street has been somewhat improved by the cleaning out of the water-tables and scraping up generally. At a meeting of the Carterton Football Club, held on Saturday evening, it was decided to iiold a ball on September sth, and committees were set up to make arrangements for the function. The manager of Messrs Booth and Co.'s sawmill informed me the other day that owing to the firm having received a large number of orders for timber for building purposes, all the hands would be employed at full time for some months to come.
