LAND SETTLEMENT.

By Telegraph—Press Association. NELSON, August 10. The disposal of 40,000 acres of Crown and settlement land on the Maruia Plains was one of the most successful sales in the colony. Only three or four sections are left, and these are expected to be absorbed in a few days. The applicants come from all parts of the colony, especially Southland, Otago and Canterbury. There are twenty-six new settlers on the Wangapeka resumed area. A new school is starting.
