SPEECH BY EARL GREY
Received August 9, 9 p.m. HALIFAX, August 9. Earl Grey, in addressing the Canadian Club, said that when South Africa was federated it would be possible to look forward to a successful attempt to federate all the King's self-governing dominions. The time must come when Canada would assume a share of the- burden of naval defence. Referring to the All Red route, Earl Grey said that he re • joiced that the British Government was earnest in the resolve to bring the distant parts oi; the Empire nearer the centre and make the Empire compact.
