THE TROUBLE IN MOROCCO.
ESTIMATED NUMBER OF j KILLED. Received August 9, 8.34 a.m. MOROCCO, August 8. It is .estimated that 400 persons were killed, at Casablanca. GERMAN PRESS OPINION. Received August 9, 7.46 a.m. BERLIN, August 8. Some of the local journals ascribe the bombardment of Casablanca to the French naval commander's momentary impulse, and declare that well-organssed police would haye accomplished all that the landing parties accomplished. Received August 9, 9.33 p.m. MOROCCO, August 9. During the night attack on the Consulate at Casablanca one of the French sailors was killed and three were badly wounded. The bombardment lasted 48 hours. According to the latest reports the town is quiec. The Duchayala has proceeded to Mazagan, where there is much disquietude. Received August .9, 9.47 p.m. MOROCCO. August 9. Adnliral Philibert landed 200 men :at Casablanca on the 7th instant. •When the street fighting was continued the Moors sacked the Jewish quarter and killed many.. The Europeans got safe aboard the steamers in the harbour or received protection at the Consulates. It is reported that the six French soldiers who were wounded in the first encounter are dead. The Moorish quarter at Casablanca is in -ruins. The State bank has been saeked and sisrty thousand pesetas stolen. T;--e land batteries have been destroyed. Received August 9, 10 p.m. LONDON, August 9. The Dally Telegraph's Tangier correspondent states that 1,000 Moors were killed at Casablanca.
