Mr John Lindsay, a visitor from Siam, and who has had some experience in Singapore, is of opinion that the waste knds north of Auckland would make a very successful locality for growing rubber. Speaking to a Post reporter on this subject, Mr Lindsay said he had seen the rubber trees growing in the Singapore district, and he was satisfied that the trees would flourish in the poor clay country of Auckland. Rubber trees were not so much in need of soi' as of rain. His opinion, he said, was confirmed by seeing rubber trees growing, amidst a general collection of trees, in an Auckland garden, and when he tapped the tree the yield was liberal. "If rubber could be grown up there," said Mr Lindsay, "New Zealand would have a tremendous source of wealth, for rubber will always be in demand, although it may not kepp at its present high price. In the Singapore fields areas of 100 acres yield a clear profit of £I,OOO per annum."
