Colonel Elliot, a tfritish officer attached to the Macedonian Gendarmerie, was wounded in the leg during a fight in which a Bulgarian band at Guredjik, near Drama, was repelled. KING OF ANNAM DEPOSED. TONQUIN, August 2. The French Resident at Annam has confined King Tanhtar to the palace, and constituted the Minister for Justice Regent. A NEW ZEALAND MUSICIAN. LONDON, August 2. The Royal Academy of Music has awarded to Mr Victor G. Booth, of New Zealand, the Frederick Westlake Memorial Prize for pianoforte playing, and also for sight reading. Received August 4, 4.16 p.m. LONDON, Augusts. The Royal Academy of Music also awarded Mr Booth the McFarren gold medal for pianoforte playing. A STRIKE SETTLED. Received August 4, 4.16 p.m. LONDON, August 3. The coalmen's dispute has been settled on a basis of increased pay. The coal-dealers insisted that employers were entitled to engage whom they like without trade union dictat>on. The official announcement that King Edward will also meet Emperor Francis Joseph at Ischl, has been warmly welcomed by the Austrian press. It is generally assumed in Vienna that Balkan affairs will be the chief topic at Ischl. VIENNA, August 3. The newspaper Wiener Alegemeine Zeitung declares that a formal AngloAustrian agreement will be entered upon covering the interests of Brit ain and Austria in the Balkans and Mediterranean.
