WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.
(From Our Carterton Correspondent.) A meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held at the County Offices, on Saturday, when there were presnt—Crs T. V. Moore (chairman), R. G. Welch, F. Court, Douglas, H. S. Mason and J. -Strang. The Treasurer's report, showing a credit balance of Ordinary Account £398 19s, Loans Account £l2 12s 9d, and receipts since last meeting £3OB 9s 9d, was read and adopted. A letter was received from Mr C. Bowles asking the Council to assist him to clean out the drain leading from Mr J. Udy's property to his house. On the motion of Cr Moore, seconded by Cr Welch, it was resolved that the matter should be left in the hands of Cr Court to deal with. Mr P. Kummer wrote protesting against the action of the Council in taking the men from their work on the Kaiwhata Road. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Douglas, seconded by Cr Moore, that a reply should be sent to Mr Kummer stating that it is the intention of the Council to visit the locality indicated and decide on the most necessary works to be undertaken. Mr D. Brown wrote asking the Council to provide him with a tank and spouting for the Council's whare and also asking that the building should be match-lined. It was resolved that the request should be granted. A letter was received from Messrs Mark Maxton and Co. in respect to Mr J. Phelps' thirds, and asking why they had not been expended on his road. On the motion of Cr Douglas, seconded by Cr Strang, it was resolved that a reply should be sent to Messrs Maxton and Co. stating that the thirds referred to were to be spent on Creek Road. j Mr W. F. Day wrote complaining of wandering stock causing a nuisance on Brooklyn Road. No action was taken in the matter. The Chairman's action was endorsed in connection with the signing of the plan of deviation at WaihaMr J. T. M. Hornsby, M.H.R., wrote acknowledging a communication received from the Council in \ connection with the Model By-laws Bill and promising to do all he could in the matter. It was resolved that -a letter of thanks should be sent to Mr Hornsby. The Health Department wrote 'concerning the meeting of delegates in connection with infectious diseases hospitals. Cr R. G. Welch, who! was appointed delegate'to represent : the Council, submitted his report •of the proceedings at the meeting. The Engineer's report was read. On the motion of Cr Strang, seconded by Cr Douglas, it was resolved that the work at Gladstone bridge should be authorised. On the ! •motion of Cr Strang, it was decided i ■ that the work in connection with 1 Brooklyn Road bridge should be left in the hands of Crs Moore. Stevens, 1 Welch and the Engineer to deal with. It was resolved, on the motion •of Cr Moore, seconded by Cr Douglas, that the Engineer be authorised •to issue a certificate of approval when any road was passed by him. j In connection with the swing ; bx-idge at Waingawa, it was resolved ; -that the matter should be placed in ; the hands of Cr Moore, with j authority to expend a not ex- I ceeding £4. | ii Accounts amounting to *£9o7 15s ; -2d .were passed for payment. i
