WELLINGTON RACES. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 27. For the concluding day of the Steeplechase Meeting showery weather was experienced. The attendance was large. The going was heavy. The sum of £18,334 was passed through the totalisator, making £52,030 for the meeting, against £26,876 last year (two days). The winning double on the July Steeplechase and Winter Oats paid £l9. After the Onslow Handicap R. Milne (rider of St. Claimer) lodged a complaint against A. H. Cairns (rider of Kaiuku) for alleged interference. The Stewards decided to suspend Cairns during their pleasure. Results : Onslow Handicap, 6 furlongs.— Jolly Friar, 10.3, 1; Gawain, 10.0, 2; St. Claimer 10.3, 3. Also started —Do Witte, Chicane, Kaiuku and Silver Shell. Won comfortably by thx*ee lengths. Time, lmin 23 4-ssec. Dividends, £3 12s and £1 7s - Crofton Hack Handicap, 7 furlongs.—William, 9.10, 1; Tangeroa, t.ll, 2; Compass, 9.13, 3. Also si irted —Gauze, Iceland, Hinupai, Grand Circle, Scenery, Lady Lethe and Papatawa. Won by a length. Time, lmin 39 l-ssec. Dividends, £2 5s and 18s. Third Hack Hurdles, 1£ mile.—St. Albert, 9.5, 1; Top Rose, 10.0, 2; Southern Cross, 10.0, 3. Also started Landlock, Golden Comb, Waipu (coupled with St. Albert), Royal Blue, Dulcinea, Playmate, Gold Guard and Catchem. Won by three lengths. Time, 3min 5 l-ssec. Dividends, £2 lis and £4 Bs. July Steeplechase, 2\ miles. — Haydn, 11.6, 1; Khama, 9.11, 2; j Needlework, 9.8, 3. Also started —Aquillo 9.7. Aquillo led for about j 6 furlongs, where Haydn took charge. | Fi.-ther round he was joined I by .vhama, the other pair being right out of it. Haydn and Khama raced on level terms until the bush fence at the five furlongs post was cleared, where the former drew away, Khama being ridden coming into the straight. Haydn cleared the last obstacle with a good lead, and scored a popular win by two lengths. Needlework was i a hundred yards away. Aquillo pulled up on entering the straight. Time, 6'nin 15 2-ssec. Dividend, £2 13s. Winter Oats, 1 mile.— Seaman, 10.2, 1; Kuku, 10.0, 2; Mataari, 9.4, 3. Also started Montigo, Kurawaka, Clancliattan, Whakawehi, Shrapnel Shell, Chatterer, Lady Warwick, Hatley, Naphtha, _ Rosegrove. Mataari and Whakawehi were prominent for half - way. The latter dropped back beaten at the home ; bend, where Mataari, Kuku and Sea- . man comprised the leading division, j The litter came away at the distance and won easily by four lengths. A J good race resulted for second place between Kuku, Mataari ai.d Whakawehi. Time, lmin 55 l-ssec. Dividends, £3 4s and £2 14s. Final Hurdle Race, 1| mile—Ben Jonson, 9.9, Merriwai, 10.4, Cavalry 10.3, 3. Also started—Pushful, Le Beau, Sardonyx, Repulse, Levant. Ben Jonson led throughout, and won by four lengths. Time, 3min 39 3-5 sec. Dividends, £2 10s and £3 19s. Kai Ora Hack Handicap, 6 furlongs.—Clem, 9.4, 1; Oblivion, 9.3, ( 2; Aotea, 9.10, 3. Also started— j Truthful, Pearlie, Barley, Hillspring j and Defeat. Won by a length, j Time, 1 min 24 2-ssec. Dividends, £3 j 19s and £2 2s.
