TrIE HUNT CLUB MEETING.
The appearance of the programme for the Wairarapa Hunt Hunt Club's Steeplechase meeting to be held at Clareville, on August 15th, will increase the interest of the sporting public in the fixture. Last year's meeting was pronounced by the majority of those present to be one of the best day's racing provided in the Wairarapa for a considerable time. Both the" jumping and flat events were closely contested, some of the finishes being decidedly close. Genuine enthusiasm was evinced consequent on the splendid jumping and absolute staying qualities of several of the contestants. This year there should be a larger number of candidates, for a number of wellknown performers have recently been following the hounds with a view to qualifying as hunters. The meeting will f _lly deserve the liberal patronage of the public, and the club is to be congratulated on the excellent programme drawn up. With three steeplechases, .one hurdle race and three flat events the public may depend on witnessing some stirring contests during the afternoon. The general arrangements are in the hands of a . very capable committee, and with Mr N. H. James as secretary, the detail work is sure to be satisfactorily attended to.
