((From Our Own Correspondent.)

Thursday. There was a large number of spectators at the local Showgrounds this .afternoon, to witness the football match played between the Wairarapa Saturday and Wairarapa Thursday .Unions. After a hard fought game the former team won by 23 points ,to 3. The ruts along High Street are at present receiving attention at th 6 hands of the Borough staff. The Methodist Mutual Improvement Society met in the Schoolroom,, on -Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance of members, and the Rev. W. J. Elliott was in the chair. The subject for the evening was a debate on the question, "Which is the more useful animal —the horse or the. cow?" Miss Glanville spoke in favour of the cow, and Mr H. Andrews in favour of the horse. A vote . was taken on the question, and Miss Glanville had a majority of three an her favour. St. Mark's Anglican Church and Vicarage are being connected with the gas service. The work is being done by the Borough staff. A horse attached to a trap, and belonging to Mr O. Hefferan, of ClareviUe, bolted along High Street yesterday.morning, and collided with a telegraph post near Cook Bros.' fruit shop. Beyond a broken shaft and splash ; board no other damage was done.
