WELLINGTON RACES. SEVERAL JOCKEYS INJURED. By Telegraph—Press] Association. WELLINGTON, July 24. The Wellington Winter Meeting was continued to-day in fine weather. The attendance was large. The sum of £18,388 was passed through the totalisator, as against £15,441 last year The successful combination double on the Wellington Steeplechase and Waterloo Handicap paid £29 15s. Seventeen horses started for the Jumpers' Flat Handicap. Shortly after the.'start Prospector fell at the track leading across the track from the scraping sheds, and brought down Bonhear, Needlework, Rosegrove, Le s ßeau and Hatley. The horses were not hurt. Henry Fairbrother, rider of Prospector, fractured several ribs, and put his thigh out and sustained some internal injuries. He was taken to the Wellington Hospital. JM'Gregor, rider of Le Beau, fractured a collar-bone. Joe O'Connell, ri ler of Needlewood, received a cut 0.-T one eye and a shaking. The oti n-s were not hurt. Khama and Hayduran together for nearly two rounds, where Khama was in difficulties. Six furlongs from home Evenlode headed Khama and made a great effort to overhaul Haydn, who had assumed a lead of several lengths. They rose at the last fence together. After a splendid finish Haydn secured the verdict by a head. Khama was ten le away, and Waitarere was a bad last. Time, 6min 58 4-ssec. Dividend, £4. Waterloo Handicap, 7 furlongs.
