LITERARY AND MUSICAL COMPETITIONS.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the Executive Committee in connection with the Literary and Musical Competitions to be held in aid of thu Masterton Municipal Brass Band, was held last evening. Mr E. McEwen occupied " the chair, and there were also present:-Rev. A. M. Johnson, Dr. Cook, and Messrs W. A. Fendall, R. J. Young, A. D. Low, J. Elder, G. W. Hutchinson, F. W. G. McLeod. Rev. Dean McKenna wrote stating that he would be unable to act on the Executive Committee, but he would do his utmost to assist the movement, which he wished every success. Communications were received from the St. Matthew's and Knox Church Choirs stating that they viewed the competitions with favour, _ and would be pleased to make an " entry. The Secretary reported that the Methodist Church Choir hadjalso decided to enter for the competitions. The question of fixing dates on which to hold the competitions was discussed, and it was finally decided to fix November 11th, 12th an_d 13th as the dates. A draft programme was drawn up following somewhat on the lines of the programme of similar competitions held annually at Invercargill. The subjects were allotted in the literary and elocutionary part of the programme. Messrs McLeod, Fendall and Young were appointed a subcommittee to decide upon the music for the musical competitions. It was decided to hold another meeting on Wednesday evening next to draw up the rules for the competitions.
