TINUI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

TINUI, July 22. The first contest between the Tinui and Mataikona Football Clubs, for Mr 'W. S. Barr's cup was played last Saturday at Whakataki, and resulted in an easy victory for Tinui by 21 points to nil. The game was fast and open, and the winners played better football than has been seen here for L many years. "Bert" Collerton, who has played several years for Taihape, was the best player on the ground, and was the mainstay of the Tinui team. J. Phillips played by far the best game for the losers and saved his team time after time. Mr J. Roberts was referee. A meet of theWairarapa Hunt Club will be held here next Saturday in plain and fancy dress, and as the course is laid across the river, which will mean a swim for the huntsmen, an amusing afternoon's sport is anticipated.
