HOSPITAL WATER SERVICE.
THE QUEfim©N- SF JMAINTEN*ANGE. The .Secasstarjr >of the Masterton Hospital Trustees >wrote to the.ineeting of the Masterton Borough v Council, last evening,- reference to the water sujptyito.the.new Hospital, statang that £he Trustees intended to adhere to their ;previous resolution and not,pay cthe\cost of ilaying .the service unless guaranceed to maintain the.aarvice. Cr Pauling «aid .that if the Txustees did not like ,to .pay for the hfiervice the Council had better cut off the water. Cr Kwington <did not consider it i fair that ithe .Trustees .should fee asked to maintain the pipes which crossed the river. The Trustees were payiqg the.same irate .for the water as oiber jpeojple outside Borough. Cr Morris .mowed-*"That if the Trustees do not t pay ,the account, the water to the new Hospital be cut off." He considered that that was the ©nJy remedy. Cr Haughey -said .that what he objected to w.as .the Trustees dictating to i&e (Council .and saying that they wrill not .pay tfor the service. If they had .come to the Council and (explained the position, without difitating, the .Council might have considered the matter. He suggested .that the difficulty might be overcome iby .the Council deciding to pay for ,the maintenance of I the pipes as far as the ,river. He j did not see iasw the Council could j maintain tlie pj ; p.es further on be- j cause they were .then <«m other' people's property. Cr Elliott seconded the .motion. Cr Ewington said it .woiild be quite right to ask the Truatees to maintain the pipes if they to have the sole use =of therq, imt he would like to poijst out thai the Council also made use uf.thejpipes for purposes of their own. J The minutes of, previous .meetings of the Council were referred £<?, and no definite agreeaaent on the part of the Trustees to pay for the : maintenance of the pipes was found. The Engineer stated tfcat it had :bsen understood all along that the ! T/ustees would pay lor the ioainten- i aape of the service. ' i ' Alter further discussion, Cr Morris : withdrew his motion, and the matter * was teeJd over unntil the next meeting < in order that the correspondence on 1 the subject and other details might J be looked into. £
