Betitef's :San Francisco correspondent states :that a small steamer, ■ named sthe San Pedro, laden with 1 timber,, icollideid, at midnight on Saturday, off Eureka, in a heavy fog, with £he steamer Columbia, of 2,700 tons, carrying numerous San Francisao The San 'Pedro struck the port bow, bearing an immense hole in the Columbia. The _ptssengers hurried on deck, where a .wild panic ensued. The Columbia sank an five minutes. A lifeboat was launched and savsd a few. Eight .were saved by clinging to the San Pedro. Lloyds tstat-3 -that ort3 hundred were drowned. Two hundred were saved by a passing steamer. Other accounts give the number of drowned ,-as 150, including the captain of lbs Columbia. One story states that-every woman perished.
