J. C. WILLIAMSON'S DRAMATIC CO.
Mr J. C. Williamson'3 new English Dramatic Company will appear here for two nights only. On Thursday "Raffles" (the amateur cracksman) will be produced. This remarkable play, by E. W. Hornung ■and Eugene W. Presbrey, has proved an exceptional draw. The story is a novel one and full of interest. It tells of the doings of one A. W. Raffles, otherwise the amateur cracksman. He is a man of culture, a brilliant cricketer, but ,is still a cracksman. The noble side of his character stands out in bold relief to the dark side. Mr Knight's conception of this complex character is said to be complete in every detail and well carried out. On Friday Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's remarkable work "Brigadier Gerard" will be staged. A contemporary says:—"The new piece owes much of its success to Mr Knight's study of Gascon Gerard, whose confidence, swagger and youthful impetuositv are allied in the actor's poutrayal with some telling light comedy touches."
