jf A meeting, convened by Mr Barton, of ratepayers and others in the interested in the road down the Whakataki Valley, was held in the Marine Hotel, Whakataki, on Saturlast. •wWP?Sointed out that the track in use followed the bed ot the creek for a distance of about three miles; that every fresh in the creek affected the crossings; that a heavy Hood swept them away; that sooner or later the road would have to be made surveyed line; that the road had been surveyed as far back as 1874, and was a pari of the Masterton-Waimata Road, and that it did not cross the creek until it came down to section 371, where there was a very good faro. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided to petition the Council to take the necessary steps to raise a loan. with the consent of the ratepayers, to make and metal the road on the surveyed line at an approximate cost of 52,000, and that, as it is a portion of the main road, the special rate would be made over the whole County. The rate would not be more than one-six-teenth of a penny in the pound on * the unimproved value.
