MR JULIUS KNIGHT.
The interest of Masterton playgoers will be aroused by the announcement of the forthcoming visit of Mr Julius Knight, supported by Mr J. C. Williamson's New English Dramatic Company, on Thursday and Friday next, at the Town Hall. A contemporary states: —Of all the artists that Mr J. C. Williamson has presented to us none are more popular, or give such highly finished representations of their different characters, than Mr Julius Knight. His repertoire is a most extensive one, and contains the latest successes of the English stage. Mr Kbight, since his last appearance in New Zealand, spent some time in England and on the Continent in search of plays for this tour. The first production at Masterton will be a remarkable play of absorbing interest by E. W. Hornun£ and Eugene E. Presbrey, entitled "Raffles" (The Amateur Cracksman), now over its 400 th night at the Comedy Theatre, London, and the success of two seasons. The second production will be Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's romantic comedy, "Brigadier Gerard.'" The military colouring, the picturesque bearing of the central figure, his adventures in his secret mission, and the presence in the play of Napoleon, make the piece attractive to all theatre-goers. The scenery and mountings are an elaborate scale. The box plan will be opened at Miss Rive's on Monday morning next.
